24 Jan - Freehand’s Guide to GroundUP Festival
It’s no secret that Miami’s got a lot of music festivals, with people coming the world over to let loose and jam to music around the city. Virtually every sound under the sun is represented by these gatherings for music lovers. Next month from February 9th – 11th, GroundUP Music Festival returns for its second year. They’ll be bringing GRAMMY-winning acts to the North Beach Bandshell just down the street.
But with Miami’s weather and crazy traffic, how do you make sure you’re prepared to have the best possible time? Well, we’ve made you this handy guide:
Give Yourself Time To Get There.
Plan your route accordingly and leave your place about 30 minutes earlier than you’d expect. You never know what can happen. Plus, you’ll want to have ample time to roam the beautiful beachside grounds, lay under a palm tree, or nibble on Chef Michelle Bernstein’s delicious grub before the crowds get there.
Bring A Blanket.
There is so much room to get lazy on the grass at The Bandshell, more than just their MiMo amphitheater. In fact, you can even go to the beach before heading into the festival and chill with friends pre-jamming time.
Get Your Wallet Ready.
The surrounding streets have some wonderful eateries and shops to peruse, but we suggest you head right into the festival and do all your feasting there. Aside from Michelle Bernstein’s curated menu, there will be local bars, craft beer, and a caravan of vendors to choose from. Oh, and let’s not forget all of the merch!
Prepare For The Weather.
Many people will be coming from less sunny places, so we highly suggest you prepare for tons of sunshine. Bring sunscreen, hats, fans, and whatever you need to avoid the heat or sun. Mosquitos shouldn’t be a problem that time of year, so you’ll be good. Check the weather a day or two out (it’s a quick change kind of thing) to see if it’ll get wet. If it does, bring a bathing suit and a poncho to keep yourself comfortable.
We mean that seriously. There will be some music you’ve never heard of, but we guarantee you’ll be blown away by everything you listen to. Everyone is super kind and welcoming at GroundUP, so being curious is a great way to connect. Especially, when tuning into the list of in-depth master classes strewn out throughout the days. Also, saving some time and curiosity for the after parties is essential to get the full experience.
Most importantly, get your tickets!
