We’re loving what this new year is bringing and has already brought to our wonderful city like a plethora of independent film screenings, mind-blowing tributes to music’s biggest legends, and even world-class jazz concerts on North Miami Beach. Thursday, February 1
Abundant Soul Conversations – Intimate talks with remarkable women to help guide these conversations with you. Josie Castañeda from Curandera Remedies, Business Coach Luly B., Ines Hernandez, SVP of Community Development at Citi, and Pilar Guzman, founder of Half Moon Empanadas. They’ll be talking about SUCCESS: What it means to you, how we let go of expectations, how we create the full lives we want to be living.

The Princess Bride – Movies On The Mile – Every first Thursday of the month, join the Gables Cinema and the City of Coral Gables for Movies on the Mile. This FREE monthly outdoor film series features classic films fun for the whole family. Screenings take place at the plaza on 150 Miracle Mile, courtesy of the McBride Family.

JAILAI Live Music Happy Hour – Add the band Jaialai as another name to know in Miami’s rock scene. Their first EP includes three songs that are chill enough to serve as background music but also groovy enough to be the centerpiece of a listening party.

Fractal Beach 2018 – Fractal Beach is an annual transformational gathering celebrating music, art, yoga, movement, and conscious culture held on the shores of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. It is presented by Massive Ideas, a Miami-based event production company.

The Wailers LIVE in The Design District – For this special performance, enjoy the sounds of the legendary The Wailers. Steered by famed bassist and founder Aston “Familyman” Barrett, and joined in solidarity with original Wailers’ guitarists Julian Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey, The Wailers continue to create musical history.

Giralda Under the Stars: Valentine’s Edition – Every first Friday of the month from November – April 2018, the community promenade will come alive with outdoor dining and jive to the rhythm of local bands. Make sure to come early and fill those bellies with the delicious local eats of Restaurant Row’s vibrant selection of eateries. This month, catch Brendan O’Hara & Yoli Mayor.

Laser Fridays – On the first and third Friday, rock out with a retro throwback to the classic laser light spectacles you know and love. From Pink Floyd to Daft Punk, Frost is fusing music from some of the greatest artists of our time with old-school laser light visuals—all under the Planetarium’s 67-foot dome.

Wigwood ‘18 – WIGWOOD is an annual festival featuring all types of queer performances, live acts, DJs, and vendors. The second annual Wigwood will not only be a festival, but a queer cultural revolution!

2018 Miami International Map Fair – Now in their 25th year, the Miami International Map Fair is the longest running map fair in the world. The fair brings internationally acclaimed dealers, collectors, experts and 2,000 guests to explore the past and the future through maps.

To Ray With Love: Maceo Parker & The Ray Charles Orchestra – A spectacular tribute to a true American music icon, from one of his most adoring and most celebrated fans. Maceo Parker joins forces with The Ray Charles Orchestra & The Raelettes for a spectacular program honoring his hero. This show premiered at the famed Hollywood Bowl and Monterey Jazz Festival and is a South Florida exclusive performance.

Carrie Mae Weems: Past Tense – Through photography, video, installation, and performance works, Carrie Mae Weems has created a complex body of art that investigates family relationships, gender roles, racism, classism, and politics. Through music, text, projection, and video, this new performance-lecture takes us on a deep dive into the enduring significance of the iconic Antigone and her profound relevance to our contemporary moment.

Nick Monaco at Floyd – The man, the myth, the sexual creature named Nick Monaco is a transformative artist who forever intrigues, tantalizes and delights. Like a butterfly climbing from a delicate chrysalis, Nick Monaco is a majestic sight to behold, and especially to be heard. Many moons ago, he spread his musical wings and began to fly, and today he soars.

Underline Cycling Club Free Bike Ride – Travel to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden from the University Metro Rail Station for some snacks, refreshments, a free entrance to the garden grounds and a special look into The Underline’s future plant selection by their expert partners at Fairchild! Feel free to join them on your ride back for a 13-mile round-trip ride.

Market Monday at Arsht – Every Monday, The Arsht Center invites the community over for a special farmer’s market and creative celebration. Peruse the stalls curated by the Urban Oasis Project, sip brews at the BRAVA Biergarten, catch free dance workshops, Kid’s Storytime, Chef Allen’s farm-to-table dinners this time themed after Romeo & Juliet and more!

International Noise Conference Pre-Party – The infamous creative party is back this year with an even wilder pre-party curated by POORGRRRL. WeWork Ponce Launch Party – Join WeWork on Thursday, February 8 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm as they celebrate the opening of their fifth building in Miami, WeWork Ponce De Leon. GroundUP Music Festival 2018 – The second annual GroundUP Music Festival returns to the beautiful North Beach Bandshell for another weekend of world-class musicianship and live performances. Enjoy incredible and intimate sets like: 3 Nights of Snarky Puppy, plus The Wood Brothers, The Flecktones Trio feat. Béla Fleck, Victor Wooten and Futureman, Robert Glasper and more! Plus local food and artisanal vendors, and in-depth workshops with your favorite artists.

A Fantastic Woman – Red Carpet Premiere – On one level, writer-director Sebastián Lelio (Gloria) creates a vivid depiction of the petty injustices and prejudices that outsiders face in any society. But Lelio’s masterful tonal control and the intensity of Vega’s presence create something more universal: a lyrical melodrama about coping with the loss of love. A Fantastic Woman is Chile’s nominee at the Academy Awards.

Paramount’s Laser Spectacular: Pink Floyd – Surrounded by walls of concert-quality sound, listeners are swept away on a mind-expanding journey driven by cutting-edge lasers, high-definition, large-screen video projection and stunning lighting effects, all choreographed to the music of Pink Floyd. This year’s show celebrates Pink Floyd’s massive chart-topper Dark Side of the Moon, an album that sold more than 40 million copies and spawned hits like “Money” and “Us and Them,” as well as timeless classics from The Wall. This visual and audio extravaganza will blow your mind!

Cie. Hervé Koubi: What The Day Owes To The Night – Acclaimed choreographer Hervé Koubi makes his Miami debut with a highly physical, stunningly ﬂuid work for 12 French-Algerian and West African male dancers that combines capoeira, martial arts, urban and contemporary dance. Dressed in white ﬂowing costumes, they exude grace and masculinity amid a backdrop of imagery evocative of Orientalist paintings and Islamic architecture. The piece is Koubi’s exploration of and reconnection to his Algerian heritage, set to a musical score that combines Sufi Music and Bach with Nubian composer Hamza El Din.
