Los Angeles

Meet Elad, Gabe and Alex! These are the guys behind the delicious food and drinks being served up at Freehand Los Angeles. We caught up with them for a quick Q&A.

FH DTLA: Elad, you’ve been in Miami for quite a while, working on Broken Shaker Miami, 27 Restaurant and other projects with Bar Lab. Now that you’ve had time to settle into L.A., how does it compare to being in Miami?

ELAD: Being from Israel, I’m a huge fan of diversity.  That’s one of my favorite things about L.A.  I really love all the different cultural influences and the delicious food from different parts of the world and I love that there are a lot more traditional places where I can experience food that’s authentic to different cultures.

FH DTLA: Gabe – We’ve heard some awesome stories from you and we always want to hear more.  Can you share one of your favorite memories from your time with Freehand Miami?

GABE: One of the best nights in our F&B operation was having Jose Andres cook a Spanish tortilla at 5:30AM for all our staff at 27 Restaurant alongside other really talented top chefs.

FH DTLA: Alex – We’re pretty fascinated by the Paladar dinner series you spearheaded and the awesome documentary that captured it all.  What was the best story you have for us during that time?

ALEX: The last year of school, I was barely doing the work in school because the Paladar dinners had taken over my life. We would sell out 64 seats within ten minutes of releasing them. And we would also have weeks where we would book private dinners 5 days out of the week.

FH DTLA: What are you guys most excited about at Freehand L.A.

ELAD:  I’m huge fan of Downtown Los Angeles.  That’s where I stay when I’m in LA.  I love the energy and the people.  There is something very magical and classic about DTLA and I can’t wait to see how Freehand LA becomes a part of this new renaissance that’s taking place.

GABE: I’m really excited about bringing Rudolph’s Bar & Tea to life.  We’ve been travelling a lot and trying teas from around the globe.  We’re incorporating a lot of our experiences into creating this new bar concept.

ALEX: I am excited to share with everyone all that we have been working on at The Exchange restaurant.  Looking forward to taking care of our guests and making them feel good!
