Miami in Prada Mode
Art Basel is Miami at its busiest and most creative, with hundreds of artists in town, and installations spread across the city. This year, Prada Mode — a new cultural event series by the iconic fashion brand — made Freehand Miami its home during Art Basel. The hotel got a temporary, oasis-inspired makeover, transforming into an exclusive retreat for guests away from the hecticness of Art Basel that also complemented the programming at the festival.
Events included DJ sets by popular artists like Craig Richards and AJ Kwame, along with performances by Ella and the Black Monks of Mississippi. The indie magazine Document Journal hosted conversations on the state of the image. Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates created an on-site installation comprising black and white pictures honoring the history of African American women. And to top off the whole series, Prada Mode celebrated its final day with a party that extended through the wee hours of the night — guests included Chloë Sevigny, Emma Roberts, and the tennis queen herself: Venus Williams.
