29 Apr - Miss Ecuador on Why She Loves Miami

We were lucky enough to recently host Constanza Baez, an economist and model who became Miss Ecuador in 2013, at 27 Restaurant (she took some amazing photos, which you can see here). Baez travels frequently for her work, but Miami is one of her all time favorite places to visit. We sat down with the accomplished winner to talk about the gems of Miami, a place she refers to as her “second home.”

What do you like most about Miami? What do you think makes it stand out as a city?

For me, Miami is beyond incredible. I have family and friends here that make me feel like Miami is a second home. Not to mention the fact that every time I come here there is always something different and new to do, so I never get tired of visiting. What makes it stand out is there is a place for all tastes, such as bars and restaurants that range from high end to the most bohemian and cozy. From vegan restaurants that play techno music to animal friendly spots that play reggae. And of course, who doesn’t love Miami’s weather, beach and atmosphere?

What are your top 3 favorite restaurants/bars in Miami?

My top 3 are Broken Shaker, Blue Ribbon Sushi & my guiltiest pleasure Joe’s Stone Crab.

What’s a hidden gem in the city that people don’t really know about?

This trip I got to explore more neighborhoods of Miami and loved hanging out at Casa Florida. It’s a little out of the way but so magical.

You are Ecuadorian! Do you have a favorite place for Ecuadorian food in the city?

I do LOVE Ecuadorian Food, but when I’m here I try to experience all the other cuisines Miami has to offer. But if you’re looking to try Ecuadorian food, the local spot my friends visit is Barzola.

You get to travel so frequently for work – what is your favorite city (other than Miami) that you have visited?

This is always such a difficult question since there are so many places that I love. There is one that I repeat every year, the Galapagos. It’s a set of wonderful islands within my country and is only 1 hour by plane from the mainland. I love to visit the islands because of the nature, animals, diving, food — it’s paradise. I 100 percent recommend visiting if you’re ever in Ecuador. Some of my other favorites places I’ve visited include Bali, Maldives, Tulum and New York.
