5 Mar - SOBEWFF Recap 2020
Hands down, one of our favorite weeks of the year is the South Beach Wine & Food Festival — a multi-day celebration that brings to Miami some of the best chefs from around the country, and amazing food experiences to go along. We went big this year, collaborating with our chef and bartender friends to host everything from shabbit dinners to poolside clambakes to pop-up speakeasies. Here’s a recap of what went down:
On Thursday, February 20, to kick off the SOBEWFF festivities, we invited our buddy Tony Messina, the James Beard Award-winning chef and partner of the acclaimed UNI in Boston to throw one of our favorite types of parties — a poolside clambake. Seafood fans came from far and wide to enjoy the epic feast, which also included lobster, corn, butterball potatoes, and chorizo. There were plenty of other snacks to munch on, like elote and salmon crudo. Needless to say, no one went hungry.
On Friday, February 21, we were thrilled to host a dinner for Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, with La Boite, the popular biscuit and spice company started by Lior Lev Sercarz. 27 chef Jimmy Labron collaborated with Jonathan Borowitz, the chef of the Tel Aviv meat lover’s paradise, M25, transforming La Boite ingredients into a stunning Shabbat dinner.
Moving right along, on Saturday, February 22, we hosted not one, but two events. First up: all the way from Montreal, the team behind Atwater Cocktail Club came down to mix up some of their signature cocktails, alongside Neapolitan pizzas by Fugazzi (another Montreal favorite). Daytime pizza pool party? Yeah, it was pretty great. In the evening, diners came to 27 restaurant for a takeover by the team behind New York seafood and cocktail destination Maison Premiere. Drinks were mixed, oysters were served, and chef Jimmy Lebron served up some special dishes.
To wrap things up with a bang, on Sunday, February 23, we hosted a special edition of Shaker Sunday in partnership with Please Don’t Tell aka PDT, the legendary New York speakeasy hidden behind a telephone booth. PDT’s Jeff Bell and Doug Lanham served the drinks, DJ Tom Laroc handled the beats, and chef Jimmy grilled up Miami-inspired bites poolside. Nothing fancy, just great food, great vibes, and great drinks — the perfect chilled-out ending to an epic week.
Thanks to everyone who came out. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.
