16 Jan - Broken Shaker Specials: A Louisiana Classic
Named for the New Orleans coffee house where it became popular in the 1850s, the Sazerac is sometimes called the oldest American cocktail. In other words, it’s the perfect yin to The Broken Shaker‘s new, cutting-edge yang. Mix one up at home or come over and try it out. It’s our classic cocktail of the week.
What’s In It
2 oz rye whiskey
1 sugar cube
2 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
How to Mix It
Fill your glass with ice and let it chill.
In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar and Peychaud bitters.
Add rye and ice and stir.
Toss the ice out of the first glass. Rinse it with absinthe (pour a little absinthe in, swirl it around, and then pour it out).
Strain the rye mixture into the absinthe-rinsed glass.
Squeeze lemon twist around the rim and over the drink. Purists say not to throw it in, but we say, trust your own cultivated taste.
