Go-Go Fresh Food Cafe
Open Mon-Fri from 11:30am-10pm, Sat-Sun from 11:30am-9pm
Biking/walking directions from our place

What we like: Two bucks-fifty for a made-to-order empanada that packs a powerful punch of straight tasty. Order up their spicy thai peanut chicken one to find out what we’re talking ‘bout.

Las Olas Cafe
Open Mon-Sat from 7am-8pm, Sun from 7am-3pm
Biking/walking directions from our place

The whole no-menu, minimal-English thing gives this Miami Beach gem some genuine Cuban vibes. If you’re a first-timer, order up their spinach empanada (or the closest thing to it) and a fresh carrot-orange juice. (Side note: Las Olas is cash-only so bring some greenbacks with you.)

Puerto Sagua Restaurant
Open daily from 7am-2am
Biking/walking directions from our place

We’ll admit that Puerto Sagua’s unassuming facade isn’t much to write home about, but their empanadas (and fresh-squeezed OJ) definitely are. Also, props to them for offering nineteen hours of empanada-ordering opportunity (7am-2am), because, seriously, you never know when you’re going to need an effortlessly authentic pick-me-up at 1:30am.
