3 May - Weekend Roundup: May 3-5
Ready for the weekend?
Friday (5/3) // Of Montreal at Grand Central:
Kick it off by grabbing a super-cheap, last minute ticket to see the phenomenal, shapeshifting Athens, Georgia band, Of Montreal. Their sound runs the gamut from lo-fi pop to lush, classically inspired compositions, and no matter the style, they always deliver a spectacularly theatrical live show. To top it off, our friend Lauren Reskin, founder of Sweat Records, just recommended Grand Central in her recent piece for the Guardian; Top 10 live music venues in Florida.
Saturday (5/4) // Frames of Reference: Latin American Art:
Get ready for our Cinco de Mayo party tomorrow by immersing yourself in the work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, and other Latin artists like Beatriz González, Wifredo Lam, and Joaquín Torres-Garcia. The 43 works currently on display at Miami Art Museum range from pastoral folk art to González’s provocatively political Los Papagayos (the parrots), and offer a diverse array of perspectives on Latin America’s rich culture and history.
Sunday (5/5) // Cinco de Mayo at Freehand Miami:
Join us in the backyard on Cinco de Mayo for some delicious, authentic, south-of-the-border BBQ and specialty tequila cocktails. Sombreros encouraged!
