History of the Dynasty Typewriter comedy clubhouse
The Dynasty Typewriter is housed in the Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles – a beloved and iconic landmark in the city. The theater was designed in 1927 by the architect Stiles O. Clements of the firm Morgan, Walls & Clements (who also designed the Wiltern Theatre in Koreatown) and was called The Masque Theater. It was later renamed following renovations completed by The Rita Hayworth Theatre Company in the 40s.
In 1950, the building was renowned for being one of Los Angeles’s top revival movie houses, and it was also home to one of the city’s initial Tiki Bars, named The Vagabond’s House. This tropical nightclub was a popular destination for Hollywood stars and celebrities, known for its stunning and luxurious atmosphere.
The Hayworth Theatre has also featured in numerous Hollywood films, such as the Naked Gun movies, and more recently, the Oscar-winning La La Land – it served as the theatre where Emma Stone’s character performed her one-woman show, So Long Boulder City.
In 2018, the theater started housing the comedy clubhouse, the Dynasty Typewriter.
