Opening in early 2018 in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park neighborhood, Freehand New York will be housed in the former George Washington Hotel - which was once home to many storied writers, musicians and creatives.
The hotel's restaurant & lobby bar will be led by acclaimed restaurateur Gabriel Stulman's Happy Cooking Hospitality, known for their family of West Village restaurants including Joseph Leonard, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Fedora, Perla café and Bar Sardine.
For guests on the go, Matt Kliegman, Carlos Quirarte & Melia Marden will open a takeout outpost of their popular Noho café, The Smile.
Gabriel Orta and Elad Zvi of Bar Lab will also bring Broken Shaker, winner “Best Hotel Bar in America” by Tales of The Cocktail (2015).
Freehand New York will also launch The Freehand Fellowship in partnership with Live Arts Bard, Bard College’s artist residency and commissioning program, and the Bard MFA program, where selected artists will have the opportunity to live, work and exhibit at the hotel.
